Casino Ambassador - axminster carpets with individual design

Casinos represent a rather specific type of space for floor coverings - both because of the high contract demands that the floor is exposed to on a daily basis in such an operation, and also because the chosen material must look not contract, but rather comfortable, even luxurious. For these reasons, it was decided that wool Axminster carpets with an individual design according to the customer's wishes would be the best fit for the Ambassador Casino on Wenceslas Square in Prague.

What is axminster?
Axminster is a woven carpet, known for its high comfort and durability. These carpets are an absolute classic in wall-to-wall carpets and are most often installed in hotels, restaurants and other luxury areas.

Custom carpet design

Carpets with individual design, which include axminsters and wiltons, are a very common choice for casinos and similar types of establishments.

The design for this particular carpet was chosen to match the overall feel of the casino interior, which is built entirely in the Art Nouveau style, including the floral ornaments and stucco decorations on the ceiling. These were also the template for the design, which ultimately won out in a competition of five options, all of which were based on a pre-determined colour palette (4 shades selected).

Our Spanish supplier, Imperial Carpets, first produced a preview sample (approximately 1 m2), which, after approval by the investor, was handed over to production and subsequently all 6 rolls of carpet were produced, i.e. 450 square metres.

Runner for the staircase

We used the same carpet to format the runners on the multi-frame staircase with different sized landings, so that all the floor surfaces were unified. The edges of the runners were edged with dark yarn in a colour close to the carpet and we also made a complete installation by gluing using the original stair rods.

Laying the carpet on the underlay

In the casino area, it was first necessary to remove the original floor covering and prepare a new subfloor to meet the requirements for subsequent installation. This was done on an acoustic underlay, which significantly improves the carpet itself in several ways:
