Composition of slip-resistant PVC
Slip-resistant PVC most often belongs to the category of homogeneous vinyl. The word "homogeneous" in this case means that the vinyl consists of only one layer, which is uniformly coloured throughout its thickness. The advantage of these homogeneous PVC floors is, for example, that in the event of surface damage (scratches, etc.) no other colour is visible below the surface, because the vinyl is the same colour throughout the thickness.
Slip-resistant vinyl floors also often have a thick polyurethane layer (abbreviated as PUR), which significantly increases the life of the floor and reduces maintenance requirements.
Slip-resistant properties
Above-standard slip-resistance in these vinyl floors is ensured by the addition of abrasive grains or hard particles, or by a grainy or even protruding surface structure, as can be seen from the detailed surfaces in the photos below. Such a surface can even effectively prevent slipping in places with direct exposure to water on the floor.
Where is slip-resistant PVC suitable?
Slip-resistant vinyl flooring is suitable for installation wherever at least a minimum possibility of slipping is expected, either due to the possible presence of moisture on the floor, or only due to the more frequent movement of a larger number of people. These are primarily the following areas:
- locker rooms
- bathrooms and wash rooms
- gyms
- kitchens
- nursing homes
- around pools
