The first month is critical
Prepare for the fact that your new surface must fully mature before it can have its final properties. Therefore, during the first four weeks after installation, follow these recommendations:
Microcement is an increasingly popular surface due to its sleek, modern look and versatility. However, attention must be paid to proper care to maintain its beauty and durability for a long time. This guide will take you through the maintenance of your microcement surfaces, from shortly after installation to long-term care.
Prepare for the fact that your new surface must fully mature before it can have its final properties. Therefore, during the first four weeks after installation, follow these recommendations:
Although you can walk carefully on the surface, it is only at 60% of its full strength. Minimize traffic as much as possible.
Continue to move carefully and avoid cleaning or wetting the surface.
You can start with gentle cleaning with water only.
Microcement reaches its maximum hardness and durability after 4 weeks. During this time, protect the floor and avoid moving furniture.
Once the microcement has fully matured, follow these instructions for daily care:
Use water and pH-neutral soap with non-abrasive mops or sponges. Imagine caring for a natural stone floor.
Choose the right cleaning products for porous surfaces, such as James Bandit.
Some microcements are completely waterproof. For others, avoid leaving puddles or wet objects on the surface for extended periods.
Use mats at entrances to prevent sand and pebbles from scratching the surface. Protect furniture legs and avoid dragging objects.
Be careful with products such as bleach, acetone and ammonia. Wipe them off quickly to prevent staining. Acidic substances such as vinegar or lemon juice can also leave marks if left for more than two hours.
Microcement is not forever and despite all the care it takes, the material eventually wears out. However, you can revitalise the surface with appropriate procedures to extend its life.
Apply a new sealing layer to restore the microcement to its original state.
Consider using microcement maintenance and protection products such as Floor Protect, which protects against water, revives and protects worn surfaces and restores light scratches to the floor. Simply apply and spread with a mop and your floor will be safe again for a long time.
To keep your surfaces in the best possible condition, pay particular attention to the following situations that pose a risk of permanent damage to the microcement surface.
Avoid chlorine-based products, hydrochloric acid and alkaline cleaners with a pH higher than 12.
Be careful with oils, coffee, wine and sugary drinks.
Although microcement can withstand high temperatures for short periods, avoid permanent contact with heat sources. Use pads under hot pots and pans.
