What are the advantages?
When it comes to the choice of surface treatment for swimming pools or wellness areas, there is no doubt about the most suitable material. Microcement is gaining in popularity thanks to its properties that stand out, especially in humid environments. What should you know about it?
When renovating, you do not need to remove tiles
You read that right! Microcement for swimming pools is applied directly on top of the original tiles. The old tiles only need to be sanded to give them more adhesion.
Resistant to chlorine and salt
Swimming pools fitted with a special microcement surface do not mind chlorine-treated fresh or salt water. Not all formulas on the market are suitable for swimming pools, so make sure you choose the right material and consult an experienced installation company.
Easy maintenance
Unlike other materials, microcement does not deteriorate over time due to salt or chlorine. Plus, this continuous pool coating is UV-resistant, so you can forget about painting or resurfacing your tiles year after year.
Non-slip surface
If you decide on microcement for your new pool, ask about the properties of the specific material and choose materials that have a coarser texture to reduce the risk of slipping.
Beautiful uniform surface
The seamless microcement surface allows architects to visually link the pool to its surroundings, creating a unique and luxurious architectural whole.
Excels in spa and thermal facilities
Luxury microcement surface is at home wherever we expect an undisturbed environment for relaxation. It's not for nothing that modern spaces often try to emulate the unique atmosphere of natural thermal caves. A designer microcement surface allows the effect of natural stone to be mimicked in many shades while retaining useful features such as good adhesion, durability and easy maintainability.
Waterproof microcement surface. One layer is enough
On the market, you will commonly come across various solutions that offer a waterproof microcement material for swimming pools. Many of them are based on the application of multiple components. However, multiple layers applied in several steps, technological pauses and long hardening times significantly prolong the implementation and increase the risk of faulty installation.
However, there is now a range of special microcements for swimming pools, which are already waterproof in themselves. So you won't need to apply multiple layers of sealant with the necessary twenty-four-hour breaks to ensure that water doesn't leak anywhere.
As it is a fully waterproof coating, there is no need to install a vapour barrier when using a one-coat material. The sealer is only applied to provide the chemical resistance that is necessary against chlorine and salt. If you are installing a new surface over existing tiles, the surface needs to be primed with a primer to improve adhesion in both cases for a perfect result.
